Click on a tab above to go to the topic you are looking for. If you still cannot find the answer you are looking for we would love to hear from you via email.
EnrollmentRegistration for each fall begins in the spring. Returning students and their siblings are given first consideration. Newly enrolling students and their parents are welcome and encouraged to visit our preschool and tour our facilities. Visits can be arranged by calling the church office, (815-397-4212), and asking to speak to the preschool director. Potty-trained children who will be 3 or 4 years old by September 1st are eligible to enroll.
All tuition and registration/supply fees and payments should be made payable to Bethesda Covenant Church and submitted to the church office. * If tuition is paid after the 7th of the month a $5 late fee is added, after the 14th of the month a $10 late fee is added, after the 21st of the month a $20 fee is added. * Full tuition is required regardless of illness or family trips. * Delinquent tuition payment may lead to the dismissal of a child. * A $25 fee will be charged for any check returned for non-sufficient funds. Children are enrolled for the full year. Approved exceptions are: serious and/or prolonged illness, permanent move from the city or unsatisfactory adjustment of the child to the school. Please give 2 weeks advance written notice of withdrawal as another child on the waiting list may be admitted. Partial monthly tuition will not be refunded in the case of withdrawal. 1. Dress your child in simple, washable play clothes. 2. Please label all jackets, boots, sweaters and mittens with initials or symbol. Be prepared to go outside everyday. 3. If possible, have child wear clothing that he/she can get off and on by himself/herself when going to the bathroom. 4. Please help your child in the hall with coats they cannot manage by them self. Boots are to be left in the hall and never worn in the preschool room by children or adults. 5. We suggest attaching mittens to the child's coat. 6. Sometimes toilet habits are broken in the beginning of this exciting new experience of preschool. This is normal and will pass. For this and other accidents, please bring a change of dry clothes to be kept on hand for necessary changes. Be sure all clothing is labeled. Children must make a visit to the restroom before entering the classroom everyday. 1. Sometimes in adjusting to a new situation, it may be helpful for the child to bring something of his/her own that is comforting and familiar. After the first month we discourage bringing of toys or other items from home, except on Show N Tell days. 2. On Show n Tell days, we ask that fragile and valuable toys, as well as toy guns, are left at home. (No play or pretend play with weapons at school.) 3. To protect the health of every child, we ask that your child does not bring toys meant to be put in the mouth (whistles, horns, etc.) 4. Please leave chewing gum, candy, and breakfast foods at home. Optional, end of the year conferences can be scheduled with your child’s teacher in April, although parents may request additional conferences at any time throughout the school year. Because teachers are attending to many things immediately before and after school, they may want to work with you to schedule conferences at other times of the day. Except in the case of emergencies, the church secretary will be happy to take messages for the teachers made during school hours. Teachers will always return your phone calls as soon as possible. Parents are welcome and encouraged to become involved in this important and exciting new adventure in their child’s life by volunteering to be a parent helper. As a parent volunteer you will have a chance to get to know the teachers and friends who will become such a big part of your child’s life. Our teachers also enjoy getting to know you individually and getting to see you and your child interact with one another. Your presence in the classroom also allows the other children to get to know another caring adult. If you have special interests or talents, feel free to talk to the teachers about sharing them with the class. If you work in an environment that is kid friendly, we may be able to arrange a class visit to your place of work. Any contact you have with the class will let your child feel proud and important. Being a parent helper is simple, fun, and rewarding! As children learn and grow there are bound to be occasional conflicts or problems. Our teachers are sensitive to the developmental needs of young children, and so any disciplinary issues will be handled consistently and in a manner that treats each child with respect and care. Oftentimes simply redirecting the young child toward another activity is sufficient, but occasionally a more direct approach is needed. The following guidelines are used when this is the case. 1. A teacher will immediately talk to the child about the situation. 2. The child will be asked to tell the teacher in his or her own words what happened. 3. If needed the teacher will remind the child of classroom rules. 4. The child is given an opportunity to talk with the teacher about what they would do differently next time in a similar situation. 5. If a behavior is repeatedly observed and/or the safety of any child is an issue, the teacher will remove the child from the situation. Occasionally children will be directed to sit on a chair away from the group until they feel that they are ready to rejoin the group with appropriate behavior. This “time out” will not exceed 1 minute for each year of the child’s age. (Example: 3 year olds – maximum time out is 3 minutes). No physical punishment or withholding of food or drink is ever used as discipline. Unless a child is in immediate danger of being injured, discipline will always be carried out in a calm voice and in an unobtrusive way, always with the goal of encouraging positive behavior. The needs and abilities of children naturally vary. Occasionally staff members may identify a child who is having ongoing difficulty adjusting to the school environment. If, after numerous attempts to meet the individual needs of a child, we find that a student has demonstrated an inability to benefit from the type of programs and services offered at our preschool, or if the child’s presence is detrimental to the group as a whole, our staff may find it’s necessary to discharge a student from the program. In this case, the needs of the child and family will be considered and discussed by the teachers and parents, including how best to meet the needs of the child and if referrals to other agencies or programs are suggested. Under Bethesda Covenant Church, the school carries liability insurance and complete coverage for accidental injury occurred while the child is at school, in the amounts required by state law. 1. A medical form must be filled out by the child's doctor and returned before the child may enter school. State law requires that each child have a physical examination not more than six months prior to admission. 2. Check your child carefully before bringing him/her to school. Any signs of a cold, fever or other symptoms of illness or over-fatigue should be ample reason to keep him/her at home. 3. When your child is free of fever for 24 hours, when cough and nasal discharge is mild at the end of a cold, you may send him/her to school.
4. Please notify the school IMMEDIATELY if your child becomes ill with a contagious disease (chicken pox, mumps, strep throat, etc.). If a medical emergency arises during school hours, we will make every effort to contact the parent either at home or at work. If you cannot be reached, your child will be taken to nearby hospital. If your child is exempt from medical care or treatment, you must provide an alternative program. Personal information regarding the child or family will not be released to anyone without written consent of the parents. Pest control measures are used in this building. Orkin comes to the church monthly. If the classroom needs to be sprayed, we will give a two day notice. If the Rockford School District is closed due to weather, we will also be closed. There are some exceptions and you will be notified when this occurs. Casmir Pulaski Day is used as a snow make-up day when needed. |
